I am confused about Vietnam visa for US citizens
I have seen conflicting information on the websites about how US citizens get a visa to Vietnam. Some people say I can get the visa when I arrive at the airport in Vietnam. Others say I must apply for a visa before my arrival in Vietnam. Which is correct?
Question
Hi,
I have seen conflicting information on the websites about how US citizens get a visa to Vietnam. Some people say not to worry about it, you can get the visa when you arrive at the airport in Vietnam... Others say you must apply for a visa before your arrival in Vietnam or you will be denied entry into the country. Can you confirm on this subject? We are going to be arriving in Vietnam in a little over a month and I would like to have this ironed out before we arrive.
Answer
Hi Robert,
What people said are correct.
- 'No worry, you can get a visa when you arrive in Vietnam': That's correct but not enough! You can get visa when you arrive in Vietnam with an approval letter issued by the Vietnam Immigration Department.
- 'You must apply for a visa before arrival in Vietnam': That's right! You must apply for a visa before arrival to get an authorized visa approval letter from the Vietnam Immigration Department. You can get entered Vietnam with the visa approval letter only.
In case you stay in Vietnam over 1 month, you will need 3 month single or multiple entry tourist visa.
Best regards,
Vietnam visa DEPT.
