Multiple entry visa or single entry visa for Vietnam?
Will I need a multiple entry visa for Vietnam if I fly into the country twice but I leave the airport for only 1 time? May I change from single entry visa to multiple entry visa when I am at the Vietnam airport?
Question
Dear Sir,
I am going to be traveling via Vietnam Airlines with the following itinerary
1 - Sydney to Hanoi (Change at SGN) 21st November
2 - Hanoi to Tokyo 25th November
3 - Tokyo to Sydney (Transit at SGN) 6th December
Will I require a single or multiple entry visa? On the return journey from Tokyo, I do not plan to leave the airport. If I changed my mind and wanted to leave the airport, is there a way to change a single entry into a multiple entry visa for Vietnam?

Answer
Dear Mr. Greg Marks,
Obviously you will need a visa to enter Vietnam for the first entry on 21st November. And then, on the flight back to Sydney, you don't plan to leave the airport thus you don't need a visa. However, if you plan to leave the airport to visit Ho Chi Minh City, you will need to make up your mind now as you can't change your visa from single entry mode to multiple entry mode once you are in Vietnam.
If you don't leave the airport on the flight back to Sydney on 6th December, a single entry visa is good for you. In case you change your mind and want to leave the airport, a multiple entry visa is required.
Best regards,
Vietnam visa DEPT.
