UPDATE: The Vietnamese government on August 15, 2023 agreed to resume its unilateral visa exemption policy for citizens from 13 countries: Belarus, Denmark, Finland, France, Germany, Italy, Japan, Norway, Russia, South Korea, Spain, Sweden, and the United Kingdom. The citizens of these countries are allowed to visit Vietnam for up to 45 days without a visa regardless of passport type and entry purpose.

It should be noticed that any foreigners who enter Vietnam and are unilaterally granted visa free entry must have a passport valid for at least 6 months.

Citizens of following countries do not require a visa to visit Vietnam. Please notice that the list will be updated frequently, therefore you should check it carefully before sending your visa application:

1. Vietnam visa is exempted for Brunei, Myanmar passport holders within 14 days as from the date of arrival.

2. The citizens of Thailand, Malaysia, Singapore, Indonesia, Cambodia and Laos can travel Vietnam with visa free within 30 days as from the date of arrival.

3. Vietnam visa is exempted for Philippines passport holders within 21 days as from the date of arrival.

4. From from March 15, 2022 to March 14, 2025, citizens of Belarus, Denmark, Finland, France, Germany, Italy, Japan, Norway, Russia, South Korea, Spain, Sweden, and the United Kingdom have 45 days Vietnam visa exemption;

7. Vietnam visa is exempted for APEC Business Travel Card (ABTC) holders from Asia Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) member economies within 60 days as from the date of arrival.

8. Vietnam visa exemption for the travel to Phu Quoc, Vietnam: The foreigners and overseas Vietnamese holding valid passport who enter Vietnam through the Phu Quoc International Airport or Phu Quoc Seaport (Duong Dong Seaport) are eligible for 30 days stay without a visa. To enjoy Vietnam visa exemption for Phu Quoc visit, Phu Quoc must be your first and only destination in Vietnam. If the visitors wish to travel to other localities or stay in Phu Quoc more than 30 days, they will need to apply for a Vietnam visa.

If you stay in Vietnam longer than visa exemption duration, you should apply for a suitable Vietnam visa before entering to Vietnam. Do not pay attention to the visa exemption in this case as the visa renewal would be very complicated and it would take you a lot of time, money and anxiety.
